OUT OF BOUNDS / LOST BALL

There are two options for playing your next shot after an out of bounds or lost ball:

OPTION ONE

Play a provisional ball with the usual stroke-and-distance penalty

If you hit your tee shot out of bounds you can take a provisional ball from the tee as your third shot.

If you find your original ball in play you can play your original ball otherwise you use your provisional ball.

OPTION TWO

Drop a ball on the fairway on a line where you agree it went out of bounds or was lost

If you hit your tee shot out of bounds or you lose your ball in play, you agree where it went out of bounds or was lost with your playing partners and drop your new ball on that line on the fairway within two club lengths and no nearer the hole.

This is a two shot penalty.

Your next shot would be your fourth shot.
